Shirodhara

Ayurveda translates to the ‘Science of Life’ and is one of the world’s oldest medical systems which originated in ancient India. Ayurveda follows a Mind, Body, Spirit approach and follows prevention rather than a cure to ill health.

Ayurveda, similar to Traditional Chinese Medicine follows the 5 Element Theory of Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth with disease being the end result when living out of harmony within ourselves.

Ayurvedic treatments utilise many therapies such as Yoga (exercise), Meditation, Diet and Herbs amongst others. Shirodhara falls under the umbrella of Panchakarma and is a detoxification treatment to remove ‘ama’ (certain toxins) from one’s constitution (dosha).

Shirodhara:

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic treatment which helps to induce a profound state of relaxation through the application of warmed oil in a rhythemic flow over the forehead and specifically to certain points (marma points) on the forehead. It is a blissful and highly relaxing treatment.

Shirodhara may help pacify the following:

  • Sleep Disorders by activating the Pituitary and Pineal glands
  • Calms the Central Nervous System
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Imbalances of the ear
  • Skin conditions
  • Nourishes the hair and scalp

Included in the Shirodhara treatment is your choice of either a short Ayurvedic Face Lift Massage or Head Massage. This treatment is suitable for both men and women.

Due to the quantity of oil used in Shirodhara which also has the added the benefit of deeply nourishing the hair and scalp, please bring a hairband or cap/hat for use after the treatment. It is a principle of Shirodhara that the head should be kept warm following the treatment.

The client should wash their hair upto 2-3 hours following the treatment as a part of after-care advice.
