Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential oils which are blended to your needs for therapeutic purposes. The oils are derived from aromatic plants, herbs and trees and are extracted via distillation, expression or solvent extraction from plant matter (leaves, flowers, twigs, bark or roots).
Aromatic plants have been used for centuries in medicine, perfume, cooking & incense. In the 20th century, a French chemist Renee Maurice Gattefosse burnt his hand and immediately placed it into a vat of lavender to cool. His fascination and studies of essential oils began when he noticed how quickly his hand had healed. He is thought to have coined the term ‘Aromatherapie’. Gattefosse’s research was later applied and integrated with massage which is how Aromatherapy is mainly used in the UK today.
Benefits of Essential Oils:
Some essential oils are antiseptic such as Lemon & Tea Tree, whilst others are Anti-inflammatory such as Yarrow & Geranium. Chamomile is an anti-histamine whilst Black Pepper and Ginger are warming oils which are useful for muscular aches where is no inflammation. Other oils are uplifting (citrus oils & Melissa), whilst others have more sedative properties such as Valerian or Vetiver.
The fastest way for the oils to be absorbed into the body is through inhalation. Oils are also easily absorbed through the skin and into the blood stream.
What to expect from an Aromatherapy treatment:
The treatment is holistic, massage based and carried out following an in-depth consultation. Oils are then selected and blended based on each clients’ needs following the consultation. Pre-bottled blends are never used.
An Aromatherapy treatment is very relaxing with lots of long fluid movements. As required by the client, additional pressure can be used. The treatment can also include an Aromatherapy facial massage if requested by the client. Clients are asked to ideally arrive make-up free if so. Kindly note that Aromatherapy Facial massages should not be confused with salon based facials.
Essential Oil Quality:
All essential oils used are sourced from high quality suppliers and where possible Organic and certified Organic by the Soil Association. High quality oils are used to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit of plants grown in the most suitable climates and environmental landscapes without dilution with other lower quality oils.
Client comfort is taken seriously at The Holistic Therapy Rooms. Back massages can be carried out in a seated position where required.
