Also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy, Hopi Ear Candling is a gentle non invasive treatment used to treat a number of conditions of the ears, nose and throat.
Used by the the native American Hopi Indians, (Hopi means peaceful people), the practise of using ear candles soon spread and begun to increase in popularity.
The candles are made from cotton, beeswax & honey. The candle is then lit and the non burning end is inserted into the ear. As the candle burns down, the heat creates a vacuum which draws up any impurities to the surface for elimination. The client may hear some gentle crackling and hissing sounds, but this normal. The treatment iself is highly relaxing.
The treatment is carried out after an intial consultation to ensure suitability and includes a gentle head massage. The treatment lasts for 30-40 minutes including consultation and aftercare advice. Results may vary from patient to patient and a series of treatments are recommended spaced across a number of weeks.
